"United. Sovereign. Youthful."
— UNAS motto

The United North American States (UNAS), commonly referred to as the United America (UA), was a federal republic composed of the three former nations of the Commonwealth of Canada, the United States of America and the United Mexican States and dozens of other, smaller North American nations. The union consists of the original fifty states of the US, the ten provinces and three territories of Canada, the thirty-one states of Mexico, and the territories of dozens of formerly independent North American nations, with Washington, D.C as the capital. The nation was founded after the Second American Civil War, and was one of the nine nations that signed the Systems Alliance Charter. The UNAS was one of the hardest hit during the Reaper assault on Earth during the Reaper War, and while it held out for nearly two weeks, it eventually collapsed when the majority of its government was killed attempting to evacuate Washington, D.C.

The remnants of the UNAS military would be splintered and scattered across the nation, but large groupings of it would combine their strength to form the North American chapter of the worldwide resistance under David E. Anderson and, after Anderson's departure for Asia, under Terrence F. Carmichael. A successor government would be founded at Windsor in Canada, although the Windsor administration was merely a puppet state of the Reapers, with all of its members either being indoctrinated or removed and replaced with people who were. The Windsor administration used its power to rally UNAS military units around it, going so far as to adopt the former UNAS flag as their own in an effort to legitimize themselves, while the Reapers used Windsor to wage war against the resistance. Mere minutes after the conclusion of the Battle of London, the Windsor government was removed from power by the North American resistance after the brief Battle of Windsor. Despite this, the UNAS would not be restored after the war, and would instead splinter into six new states.
